Frequently Asked Questions

What is a World Scout Jamboree? How do I get involved?
A World Scout Jamboree takes place somewhere in the world once every four years and in 2027, we’ll travel to Gdansk in Poland. This is the 26th edition of the event, and we are proud to be organising an Irish Contingent to attend.
We’re organising a contingent of 10 Scout Troops to attend the Jamboree, along with about 100 International Service Team (IST) volunteers. Scout Troops are made up of 36 Scouts aged 14-17 at the time of the Jamboree, supported by 4 Troop Scouters who are age 18+. Over 18’s can also sign up to join the IST, where they will form part of the staff team on the event and could be delivering food, organising programme, coordinating the media team or much more.
You can read more about joining the contingent here
Who is organising the Jamboree?
The Jamboree in 2027 is being hosted by ZHP, the Polish Scout & Guide Organisation, and supported by WOSM (World Organisation of the Scout Movement) volunteers and staff. Scouting Ireland is organising a contingent to attend the Jamboree which is led by our Head of Contingent, Rory Nevin. You can read more about Rory and his team here
What are the age ranges for taking part?
The Jamboree Organisers have set the age ranges as follows:
- Youth Participants: Must be born after 30 July 2009 but not later than 30 July 2013 (aged 14-17 on the event)
- IST & Troop Scouters: Must be born on or before 30 July 2009 (over 18 on the event)
There is no flexibility in these dates so we unfortunately cannot make any exceptions.
How do I register for the Jamboree?
Registration is now open! Go to our page on Getting Involved to read more and submit your application
How are people with additional support needs included?
The Contingent Management and Troop Leader teams will be trained in supporting those with additional needs including Neurodiversity and Mental Health First Aid. For physical/access needs the best thing to do is contact us early on [email protected]. We are always able to support wheelchair users, Scouts with CPAP or other devices, medical needs etc. Contacting us early will help us to put all the right plans in place for you.
Anyone over 18 attending the Jamboree will also be required to be fully compliant with our own Scouting Ireland Safeguarding and Vetting standards, and will complete a mandatory Safe From Harm training course before the Jamboree starts.
Can my Scout Group sign up?
Sign-ups are done on an individual basis, so you don’t need to find a group to apply with. For Participants and Scouters/Leaders, we’ll match you with other applicants in your area. IST will join local IST Patrols who will prepare for the event together. If your scout group wants to attend together, each person interested should apply and their applications will be considered. We encourage Scout Groups to support their members attending to help each other throughout the preparations and with fundraising.
What's the cost of taking part?
- The cost can vary and will depend on some external factors like flight prices and apparel costs. Previous WSJ fees have been €3,500 so this Jamboree should cost less given Poland’s proximity to Ireland. The final cost will be advertised in advance of sign-up, so you know before fully committing.
- Your fees will generally cover transport, registration fees, apparel, programme, food and other miscellaneous costs. A full breakdown will be given before registration opens.
What are the travel arrangements?
Travel will be coordinated by the Contingent Management Team. Details will be shared closer to the event.
What is the role of the International Service Team?
The International Service Team supports the event’s operations, ensuring a smooth experience for all participants. You can read more about the role in our Getting Involved section
Can I apply for multiple roles in the Contingent?
If you are interested in both Troop Scouter and IST roles, you should submit one application as a Troop Scouter. You can indicate on the form that you would like to be considered for IST if not selected. Please do not submit two separate applications.
If I'm going as a Youth Participant, when will I meet my Troop and Leaders?
We’re planning that each Troop will have their first meeting in the first few months of 2026.
